Established in 2020, SBT Basketball Development Academy is proud to teach not only the love of the game, but to also impart the ideals of good working habits, mental toughness and commitment. We train and master the arts of fundamentals and skills for a solid foundation in playing basketball at a higher level with poise and confidence. Our mission is simple- GET BETTER!
Meet the Coach
Coach RJ Sanchez
Owner, Head Coach
Coach RJ Sanchez is the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Pearsall High School, in Pearsall, TX. Born and raised in San Antonio, TX; he has attained 15 years plus of coaching experience at the youth, junior high, as well as high school level.
In 2010, Coach Sanchez graduated from Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi with his bachelors in Kinesiology. At A&M-CC he learned the scientific study of human body movement. This knowledge impacts his basketball coaching approach with physiological, anatomical, biomechanical, and neuropsychological principles and mechanisms of movement.
In 2014, Sanchez started his High School Coaching career at his Alma Mater, Sidney Lanier High School in the west side of San Antonio, TX. As an assistant varsity coach and freshman Coach, the Voks won a District Title that year and playoff spot. These accomplishments led Sanchez to his next assignment at Thomas Edison High School in San Antonio, TX where he Coached as the Golden Bears freshman, Junior Varsity and 1st assistant.
Sanchez also serves in the United States Army National Guard as an Artillery Officer and holds the rank of Captain. In 2021 Coach Sanchez was ordered to Active Duty overseas in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (Operation Spartan Shield). There, he led as the Primary Army Advisor to the Air Base Commander and led a 15-man team. He was then hand selected by a Brigadier General to serve as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Liaison Officer, where he worked with the Royal Saudi Forces Headquarters and United States Embassy. The Army has instilled not only military values for Sanchez, but also sound leadership.
Sanchez is also a SAN ANTONIO SPURS Camp Coach with Spurs Sports Academy. Sanchez coaches season Spurs camps, including summer overnight camps and teaches fundamentals and advanced skills to campers.
